Hot Summer Days In The Salon 🔆 Attention: Potential High Risk For Infection!

This summer, we are experiencing “ heat waves” in all regions of Europe.  What many people don’t know, when temperatures rise, the risk of infection in salons, barbershops and cosmetic studios also increases. Certain types of viruses spread particularly well in the heat.

Covid-19 infections are not the only numbers that are increasing, there is another pathogen that is a potential threat, called Staphylococcus Aureus .It is dangerous because it is resistant to most antibiotics and is therefore difficult to treat. The  optimal temperature  for Staph to grow is around 37°  and  multiplies particularly fast where there are a lot of people, which includes salons.

Staphylococci is the “invisible danger” in everyday salon life!

Staphylococcus Aureus are gram-positive bacteria that affect both humans and animals. Many people unknowingly carry this disease, their body becomes resistant to it and they have no symptoms. It is estimated that every third person in the world with staph is infected! Staph is also very heat resistant. High temperatures do not destroy this dangerous pathogen.  The deadliest of all Staphylococcus strain is MRSA (Multi Resistant Staphylococcus aureus), which is resistant to most antibiotics, and is rightfully called “The Superbug”.

Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for a variety of symptoms, the most common of which are: inflammation of the skin, throat and upper respiratory tract. If the bacteria gets into the bloodstream, it can damage internal organs and cause inflammation of the mucous membranes.

Staph infections can be contracted through: Contact with moist, warm surfaces, direct contact through an open wound or indirect contact through objects and surfaces that an infected person has touched.

Once infected, the bacteria remains on the skin for 24 hours. Contact with an infected surface or person can affect your life forever! Salon Professionals and their customers can be infected with staph by performing, haircuts,  shaving, manicure, pedicure, waxing  and other beauty treatments.

KING RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of salon disinfection and hygiene products that are designed for professional use and stands for the highest level of safety and quality.

“It is important for us to educate the industry about the importance of professional disinfection and hygiene concepts in everyday salon life,” says Lee Ann Schoepf, Marketing Director KING RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL. “After Covid-19 Pandemic, the salon industry became aware of the importance of proper disinfection of tools and surfaces, but hardly anyone speaks about the real risks of infection that have become a reality in the salons,” continues Lee Ann Schoepf.

Helpful tips on how  infections can be prevented:

  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water – before and after each customer. Remember that every customer coming through your door can be a potential carrier of infection.
  • Clean and disinfect all used tools such as scissors, combs, razors etc. thoroughly after EVERY customer! We recommend BARBICIDE CONCENTRATE®, properly mixed with water in our disinfecting glass, for effective and safe disinfection.
  • When non -porous items need to be disinfected quickly use BARBICIDE DISINFECTION SPRAY® it is alcohol free and will not damage materials or surfaces. Just spray it onto an item or surface, let stand for 3 minutes and wipe dry.  BARBICIDE SPRAY®  is great for disinfecting salon chairs, wash basins, work stations, trolleys, manicure tables  and pedicure chairs.
  • Whenever possible, use disposable gloves when performing all the services you provide for your customers. It is the responsibility of the salon team to ensure that when a client leaves the salon, they not only look great, but they are also safe from the risk of infection.
  • Electric hair clippers and trimmers must also always be cleaned and disinfected after EVERY customer. The best “#Salon Hack”  is CLIPPERCIDE SPRAY®. Spray onto  the blade of the hair clipper or trimmer, let  the blades remain moist for 3 minutes , wipe off the excess oil  you are ready for your next customer ! If possible, the shaving heads should periodically removed before  for cleaning and disinfection with the CLIPPERCIDE SPRAY®.

It is the responsibility of the salon team to ensure that when clients leave the Salon, they not only look great but also feel safe and protected against the risk of infection.
